We thought about the "American Dream" compared to the American response; about looking inward; about love as resistance. Currently, the text in these pieces are being rewritten for spoken word performance with cello accompaniment.

My relationship to this series (Girl Brushed Red Living in Black and White) is organizing hurt into boxes and frames and symbols, into this grid of experience. When I was making it, I thought I was working with memory and time and the female body, but I didn’t recognize that I was organizing pain.

I create living art. This means that my practice is in the way I live my life. My intelligence reaches upward to the cosmos and into the depths of Earth’s core; into the depth of the internal and out across the landscape. My intelligence travels as the wind, rises with the sun, carries the emotions like the ocean waves and appreciates the Earth and the healing medicine it has to offer. Therefore, what I create does as well. This is most clearly exemplified through my project called For Brown Bleeders, a collective of artists and healers that organize healing spaces and create herbal remedies focused on the needs of people of color who bleed and who are moving through all forms of abuse. In it’s name it creates solidarity between people of color; expands and centralizes people who menstruate; gestures toward a system of giving for those who are most vulnerable. In it’s practice we protest, we knock on doors, we ask what do you need and give all that we have left to meet those needs. For Brown Bleeders began has a four-part artist book series that helped readers//viewers find new ways to experience their menstrual cycle. It has transformed into an installation and marketplace. And again into a collective. For Brown Bleeders continues to birth transformation. The healing spaces in the United States will be organized by For Brown Bleeders.
